Two Vampire Crab Species Found, Are Already Popular Pets

 National Geographics said…

“Vampire crabs, so named because of their glowing yellow eyes, have become popular as pets, but the origin of some of these spooky-looking crustaceans has been cloaked in mystery.

Until now.

Now researchers have traced the freshwater crabs back to their wild source in Southeast Asia—and report that the two most sought-after species are new to science.

The newly described species, Geosesarma dennerle and Geosesarma hagen, were found in separate river valleys on the Indonesian island of Java

“These crabs are kind of special because they’ve been around in the pet trade for ten years, but no one knew where they come from,” said study co-author and professional aquarist Christian Lukhaup of Waiblingen, Germany.”

A Japanese man was sent to prison for making guns with a 3d printer

by Augusto Llull (9th grade)

A 28 year old Japanese man was send to prison with a term of two years, for making two pistols at home with a three-dimensional printer.

After his arrest Yoshitomo Imura admitted the facts, and said he knew his actions were illegal.

Shortly before his arrest, Imura posted online a video showing the weapons he created with his 3D printer, which quickly alerted the police.

3D printers create objects made of plastic or other materials with data provided by a computer.

In Japan, models for the general public are sold from about $ 575.

What does Weather sound like?

That’s the question some musicians in New Orleans wanted to answer, and they built a synthesizer to turn weather data (temperature, wind, rainfall, sunrise and sunset, etc.) into sounds. They were inspired by the fact that many blind people are unable to establish sleep patterns because they do not perceive the changes of sunrise and sunset.

Would you listen to this background noise to find out what the weather is like? Or use it to wake up or go to bed if you were blind? In any case, it is a very interesting project that brings together art, music, and technology.

Spontaneous Human Combustion

by Clemente Sáez

There are many ways a person can arrive to the afterlife, but there is one beyond just “weird” and it can happen to anyone at any moment without any previous advertising, the spontaneous human combustion.

This is a really unlikely to happen and it consists in “burning” to ashes in a few seconds, the victims are devoured by the fire which unexplainably appears from nowhere but their own body.

Until this date this is been unable to be explained even by the most capable doctors and scientists.

Is Vladamir Putin just like… Hercules?

This week, Vladamir Putin celebrated his 62nd birthday. This led his supporters to create an art exhibition that shows Vladamir Putin as Hercules, with images of the Russian leader completing 12 brave tasks, just like the Greek hero. For example, one picture shows Putin battling Western countries like Canada and the United States which are drawn just like the multi-headed monster that Hercules battled.

You can see the pictures from the BBC here. The Russian president promotes a macho image and enjoys a cult of personality that seems very strange in comparison to Western politics. Six years ago he was given a tiger for his birthday. What do you think? Do the pictures make Putin look powerful and impressive, or just silly?
