Students try to catch the lyrics of American Pop

Some high school and middle school students recently visited the hub to select some of their favorite American music and try and transcribe the lyrics. Their choices ranged from fairly easy (Avicii “Hey Brother”) to very difficult (“Monster” by Rihanna and Eminem). Few students did a perfect job, but they were excited to pick up the words they had missed after checking the lyrics online, and learned new vocabulary to understand the songs better. Maybe in the near future, some of the students can perform in a Karaoke competition!

What does Weather sound like?

That’s the question some musicians in New Orleans wanted to answer, and they built a synthesizer to turn weather data (temperature, wind, rainfall, sunrise and sunset, etc.) into sounds. They were inspired by the fact that many blind people are unable to establish sleep patterns because they do not perceive the changes of sunrise and sunset.

Would you listen to this background noise to find out what the weather is like? Or use it to wake up or go to bed if you were blind? In any case, it is a very interesting project that brings together art, music, and technology.

This is the name of the new album of Yusuf, or Cat Stevens, well known for his famous song “Lady D’Arbanville”, “Father and son”, and “Wild world” (1970). But the artist is coming out with a different style of music, this new album is mainly R&B or rhythm and blues. This is a big jump, because his music was basically folk before.

Ricky Martin’s Concert

By Elisa Guarda (9th grade)

On October 24 was the biggest concert that Ricky Martin has made to our country and the place chosen was the National Stadium, which was predicted to reach about 47 thousand fans.

This concert is interesting because it had reasonable prices, as Fallabela has decided to celebrate their 125 years, choosing Ricky Martin as the face of their campaigns in South America.

Foo Fighters Concert

By Andrés Contreras (9th grade)

The north-American band is composed by Dave Grohl (ex-drummer of the band Nirvana, and current singer and guitarist of Foo Fighters), Nate Mendel (electric bass), Pat Smear (ritmic guitar), Taylor Hawkins (drums) and Chris Shifflet (lead guitar).

The reason of their returning to our land on the 15th of January, after their last arrival in Lollapalooza’s 2012 edition, is that they’re making the world tour to promote their eighth album titled “Sonic Highways”, which will be able in the 10th of November, in two physical editions, a CD and a 180-gram vinyl, which will have 9 different covers, including each city in which they have recorded.

They’ll perform at the Estadio Naconal, 9 p.m, in which the tickets price will vary from 30.000 chilean pesos (the cheapest) and 150.000 the most expensive one, prices that have angered the public opinion due to their very high value, comparing to other countries.
