Beautiful coral meeting of the REI!

As a start to the celebration of 35th anniversary of our schools, on Wednesday August 26, it was held at the community room the 2015 meeting of choral groups of Ignatian educational network, REI.
More than 170 students from 10 choirs, all belonging to the REI and Fe y Alegria organization, gave life to this meeting, which allowed them to share the commitment to singing and musical expression from diversity and friendship.
It was a very important opportunity to strength ties with the schools of the REI and, above all, a great opportunity to our students to share generously their musical word with singers from other latitudes.
The participating choirs were:
School Multipurpose Don Enrique Alvear
San Ignacio de Loyola School (Valparaiso)
San Ignacio El Bosque School
Private School No. 8 San Ignacio (from Calera)
School Padre Hurtado
Colegio Hogar de Cristo
Mission College
Padre Hurtado Institute

English Day is coming!!

Next September 24th is the English Day taking place in our school and everyone seems to be very exited about this. There are many activitites being organized by students and teachers working together to make this day one of the best of the year.

In my opinion this is a great opportunity for all the students to improve their knowledge about many English speaking countries.

Also, they´ll be able to have a great time and enjoy next to their teachers and friends.

12th Grade English Elective Students Debate San Ignacio Alonso Ovalle Students

Seven of our seniors went to San Ignacio Alonso Ovalle on Tuesday, August 25th, to participate in two debates (in English!) against the other school. They were randomly assigned to argue for the first motion: “Add English to the PSU” and against the second motion “Use a progressive tax system in Chile to fully fund university education.”

IMG-20150825-WA0008They did a fantastic job, in particular José Tomás Valenzuela, who won the Coach’s award, and  Vicente Rodríguez and Vicente Urrutia, who won MVP honors for the first and second debates, respectively. Miss Lucía Pizarro, our English Department Head, moderated the first debate. Great job to all the participants, and thank you to our hosts at San Ignacio!

English day is coming!

The English day its going to take place the 25th of the present month. It will be full of activities and the Hub will give a great instance for learning. To have an idea of what would you be able to do, imagine that it is a kind of science fair but in English.

In my opinion, this is an awesome event that should have taken place a lot of years before because it gives the opportunity for improving the most important language in the world and having fun at the same time.

Short Film Review Resources for 12th Grade (Miss Cecilia)

The short film (or “short”) is an interesting genere of cinematography because the directors and actors must create their atmosphere and send their message in a very small amount of time. Long films have more time to develop characters and ideas– in a short film, the effects, the images, the dialogue, the music, etc. are even more important because the producers must select them very carefully to convey the message of the film in the most efficient way possible.

Your job is to evaluate ONE of the short films featured on one of these websites which is 15 minutes long or less. If your film is between 5 and 7 minutes, please watch it twice, because every detail will be very important in a film that is so short.

Then, you will write a review of at least 250 words that follows these suggestions:

1. Take good notes during the film:

-Every time something sticks out to you, whether good or bad.

-Take a note of patterns

-Important scenes

2. In your review explain what the film is about, without going into too many details, or spoiling the ending.

3. Express your opinion about the film, but support that opinion with details.

4. Judge the story—were the actions of the characters believable? Does the plot make sense? Does it flow well or does it feel too slow or fast at times?

5. Rate the actors. Were their portrayals realistic? Was the dialogue authentic or did it feel fake? What could the actors, the director, the screenwriters, or others have done differently to make the film better.

6. Evaluate the technical elements. How do the cinematography, editing, lighting, sound, costumes, soundtrack, and other components make the film better or worse?

7. Come up with a thesis for your review. Try to have a specific conclusion that you will explain with details:

-This film disappoints the fans of the book on many levels.

-The director uses many elements to create the perfect horror atmosphere in this triumph.

– “[Jake] La Motta was an animal, a bull in the ring and a pig outside, and director [Martin] Scorsese is true to both Jakes.”

-“This film took me straight back to high school, in a happy but not uncomplicated way”

“Viewers will feel as though they’ve just finished a great meal but aren’t sure what they’ve been served.”

Missions Limache 2015

On 10th of July, at 14:30, more than 120 students from 11th and 12th grade met in Padre Hurtado and Juanita de Los Andes to participate actively and enthusiastically in 2015 Limache Missions.

Working hard, enduring the cold and rain, our students dared to leave the comfort of their houses, sleeping in classrooms with mattresses and sleeping bags. They got up at 7:30 am to have breakfast then perform prayer in the morning and go to work at 9 am. They returned to the school for lunch at 13:00 and then returned to their work at 14:30.

In the evening, after the meal, the spirituality team made up of 11th and 12th grade students was responsible for encouraging the midday mission. Using media like videos, music and texts they were building different reflections both morning and night giving a new meaning to every day, linking the experience in every day with the gospel of Jesus.

The missions lasted until Wednesday, July 15.
We are very happy and thankful for this experience, we want to thank the families that received us, the mayor of Limache who accompanied us every day and the teachers that went to work with us.

Chile to the final!

After winning against Peru (2-1) in a very interesting game, Chile move on to the final of the Copa America that will take place this Saturday at 17:30, where the players will be playing at the National Stadium.

We will play against Argentina in this match after they won against Paraguay with a crushing result by the “albicelestes” (6-1).

This is the first time in 28 years that Chile reach the final of this tournament.

I think this is a great opportunity to show the world that the Chilean people are brave and can do what all the world think we can´t.

The only think to expect now is to win the tournament and keep with the trophy as a great achievement in our sports history.seleccion chilenaargentina
