Mexican Student Protesters Murdered

A protest by university students in Tixtla, Mexico last week ended as corrupt police and members of a drug cartel began shooting at the unarmed students. Over 40 of them are now missing, and 28 burned bodies were discovered in the countryside on Saturday. Over a dozen members of the police and cartel who are accused of the killings have been arrested and federal police have arrived to control the area.

One student who survived the massacre tells his story in this story from NBC.

The tragedy reminds some of the famous massacre of over 100 student protesters in Mexico City before the 1968 Summer Olympics. In that case, the government sent secret police to fire at the protest and covered up the crime for years.

Students Register in the English Experience Hub

first week

This week several High School classes are visiting the Hub for the first time to sign up for our online platform, schoology.com, and some also had time to play a game. Mr. Garfield, one of the teachers, said that the visit to the hub was “the best time the students have had in my class all year.”

Once students have completed the registration and agreed to the procedures and rules of the center, they will be invited to visit during recess, and come before and after school. There are English newspapers and magazines, games, cable TV, and online games and discussions for them to enjoy. And this is only the beginning!
