Mexican Student Protesters Murdered

A protest by university students in Tixtla, Mexico last week ended as corrupt police and members of a drug cartel began shooting at the unarmed students. Over 40 of them are now missing, and 28 burned bodies were discovered in the countryside on Saturday. Over a dozen members of the police and cartel who are accused of the killings have been arrested and federal police have arrived to control the area.

The tragedy reminds some of the famous massacre of over 100 student protesters in Mexico City before the 1968 Summer Olympics. In that case, the government sent secret police to fire at the protest and covered up the crime for years.
